In palliative care, what matters most to the patient is knowing that their wishes are taken seriously and that they are not left alone to face their concerns. For the family, it is also important to have a caregiver by their side who supports them and guides them with compassion.
At Verbandskëscht, this focus on the patient and their family is at the heart of our approach to palliative care at home.
Training Focused on the Needs of Patients and Their Loved Ones
To mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, 85 Verbandskëscht employees participated in our third “Palliative Care Morning” event. This training session provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of situations that may raise questions and cause hesitation among patients and their families:
- How can you help someone who can no longer eat or drink on their own? What really brings them relief?
- What legal issues should we consider at the end of life?
- How can we make advance directives easier for every patient to understand?
- How can we support children and adults as they grieve?
A reassuring presence at home
Beyond medical care, providing support involves paying close attention to patients and their loved ones in many ways.
Verbandskëscht is committed to being there for patients and their families in the comforting setting of their own homes, right until the very end.
“We are here to listen to people’s pain and fears, and to alleviate them as much as possible. We are committed to ensuring that patients and their families are not left alone,” emphasizes Alex Mergen, executive director of Verbandskëscht.
To provide high-quality care that keeps pace with medical advances, Verbandskëscht continuously trains its teams and works closely with doctors and experts from various fields.
Verbandskëscht would like to extend its warmest thanks to Dr. Cristiana Lopes and Dr. Florent Fuchs, Attorney Christian Bock, and psychologist Anaïs Meulemans for their valuable contributions to our 3rdth edition of the “Palliative Care Morning,” as well as all the participants for their dedication.
